According to dictionary.com, an avatar is “a graphical image that represents a person, as on the Internet.” The word has also become synonymous with 21st century filmmaking because, of course, it’s the name of James Cameron‘s highly anticipated new blockbuster. It was a record shattering weekend at the box office as The Twilight Saga: New Moon proved that a shirtless seventeen year old can inspire legions of devoted female fans around the world to flock to the multiplex in record numbers. ‘Avatar’ Racking Up ‘Titanic’ Interest

This Friday, James Cameron‘s long-awaited follow-up to Titanic, the 3D epic Avatar, will be unveiled at 104 specially-selected IMAX theaters across the country. Sort of. It’s actually going to be a 16 minute preview, similar to the screening at last month’s Comic-Con Festival.
