Actor Paul Reubens successful revival of The Pee-wee Herman Show is now being extended to the big screen. More than twenty years since Big Top Pee-wee, Reubens will be starring as his alter ego Pee-wee Herman in another cinematic adventure that is being produced by Judd Apatow. The director, who is known for movies centered around neurotic young adults like Knocked Up and more recently, She’s Out of My League, became interested in the project after attending a performance at the Nokia Theater in LA. Apatow told Variety:

Let’s face it, the world needs more Pee-wee Herman. I am so excited to be working with Paul Reubens – who is an extraordinary and ground-breaking actor and writer. It’s so great to watch him return with such relevance.

The news about the movie comes after the announcement that The Pee-wee Herman Show will be heading to Broadway.
